All students at this level are encouraged to respond to and to use language effectively in a range of contexts. During our English / Literacy programmes, students will:
- Read for pleasure as well as for information;
- Read a range of texts and respond to them critically;
- Develop life-long reading strategies which include questioning, predicting, making connections, inferring, summarising, skimming and building vocabulary;
- Write confidently for a range of purposes and audiences;
- Use grammar, punctuation and spelling accurately in their writing;
- Listen to other viewpoints and ideas, and contribute to discussions;
- Create and present a formal speech;
- Use a variety of formats to present quality work e.g. poster, ICT, pamphlet, booklet and bookwork;
- Work independently, and in small or large groups.
